Trocsanyi won’t run in EP elections
Fidesz MEP Laszlo Trocsanyi has said he will not run in the 2024 European parliamentary elections, and he will take up the post of rector of the Karoli Gaspar University of the Reformed Church in Hungary.
Trocsanyi is a member of the EP Constitutional Affairs Committee and an alternate member of the Foreign Affairs Committee.
In a statement on Monday, the one-time justice minister (2014-2019) said he would make use of his experiences and contacts in Brussels when he returns to academia.
He said the European Union was in the midst of a crisis and lacked self-confidence because it was in an internal dispute over its identity.
“We trust that … the European parliamentary elections will bring about a positive turn,” he wrote.
