Viktor Orbán to Discuss Hungarian EU Presidency with the German Chancellor
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has travelled to Berlin, where he will hold talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Friday, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief, announced.
According to the statement, the bilateral talks will review plans and programs related to Hungary’s six-month EU presidency, which starts in July. Before their talks, the two politicians met at the Hungarian-German football match. However, in Chancellor Scholz’s social media post on X, Viktor Orbán was not included.
Was ein spannendes Spiel, was für eine mitreißende Mannschaft! Ihr habt uns alle begeistert – hier im Stuttgarter Stadion und überall im Land.

In his regular Friday interview with Kossuth Radio, the Prime Ministero gave a more detailed account of the current developments in Hungarian-German relations.
He highlighted ongoing negotiations with Mercedes-Benz for a significant investment in vehicle production, potentially creating 4,000 jobs in Kecskemét (Central-Hungary). Viktor Orbán underscored the importance of German-Hungarian economic cooperation and described Chancellor Olaf Scholz as a supportive ally.
Mr. Orbán expressed concerns about Europe’s direction, criticizing perceived pro-war and pro-migration stances within certain coalitions and referencing concerns about a ” (George) Soros plan.”
He noted that Hungary’s upcoming EU presidency will focus on enhancing European competitiveness.
In terms of political alliances, the PM criticized the Germany’s Manfred Weber-lead European People’s Party (EPP) for aligning with left-wing parties, contrasting with the rise of right-wing movements across Europe. He discussed implications for EU policies and alliances.
