As magyarbusz.info reports, BYD’s Komárom (northern Hungary, close to the Slovakian border) factory has reached a major milestone in bus production, assembling its 700th vehicle for the European market.
Chinese vehicle manufacturer BYD established its Komárom production facility in Hungary in the spring of 2017. The plant was a strategic move to strengthen the company’s presence in Europe, providing a local base for manufacturing eBuses tailored to European demand. Initially, the factory focused on assembling the 12-meter solo electric bus, the flagship model of the eBus series. Over time, the plant expanded its production capabilities to include midi buses (eBus 8.7 K7U) and larger solo versions with a wheelbase exceeding 13 meters.
The Komárom factory’s output has grown steadily since its inception.
By this summer’s temporary shutdown, the plant had produced 700 buses, and the eight-hundredth vehicle is now on the production line. The latest milestone, the 700th bus, is part of the articulated B18 series, the first of its kind to be assembled in Komárom. This 18-meter articulated bus is bound for Havelbus Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH, a German transport company. BYD’s Komárom plant is contracted to deliver 30 eBuses to Havelbus over the next three years, with 10 units arriving in autumn 2024, and another 20 scheduled for 2025 and 2026.
The articulated buses in this series are equipped with BYD’s advanced lithium-phosphate (LFP) batteries, offering a total capacity of 511 kWh and a range of up to 400 kilometers. These three-door buses feature both plug-in and pantograph charging options, and powered by a BYD-developed gantry drive system, which delivers 150 kW peak power per motor.
BYD’s Komárom plant continues to play a pivotal role in the company’s European expansion. With steady growth in production and advanced technology, the plant is well-positioned to meet the increasing demand for electric buses across Europe.
