Laptops are becoming the standard

Another 125,000 pupils will receive laptops from state funds by December, a state secretary has announced.

Bence Rétvári emphasised that the modern IT tools will be made available to 5th and 9th grade students who have previously registered their needs in the Kréta system. The laptop distribution programme, with a total cost of 32 billion forints (80 million euros), serves to increase competitiveness by providing students with modern knowledge.

‘One of the functions of the education system is to reduce the social differences brought from home,’ explained the State Secretary. As the EU does not want to make the reconstruction fund available to Hungary, the programme is now being implemented ‘with full state support’. In recent years, a total of 453,000 laptops have been distributed to around 3,000 schools as part of the programme, 55,000 of which went to teachers. At the same time, the range of interactive textbooks and other downloadable content on the National Education Portal (NKP) is being expanded every year. In recent years, 200 million downloads have taken place on the site, the content has been used in 6,500 school groups and more than 28,000 tasks have already been distributed to pupils via the portal.
