Viktor Orbán Discusses European Competitiveness with French President

French President Emmanuel Macron (R) receives Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in the Élysée Palace, Paris.
The French President stressed the importance of the speedy and full implementation of the recommendations of the Draghi report on European competitiveness, during a meeting with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in Paris on Tuesday evening. Emmanuel Macron also expressed his intention to deepen partnership relations with Hungary in a number of strategic areas of bilateral relations, the French presidential office said on its website.
According to the statement, the two leaders discussed preparations for the informal meeting of the European Council to be held in Budapest on November 8, that will focus on European competitiveness, in the context of the Hungarian presidency of the Council of the European Union. The November meeting will be attended by Mario Draghi, former Italian Prime Minister, former President of the European Central Bank and author of a report on European competitiveness, analyzing it from a strategic perspective.
In this context, Emmanuel Macron stressed the importance of implementing the recommendations as soon as possible.
The recommendations also call for the completion of the process initiated by the French presidency of the EU last year to strengthen the EU’s industrial and technological sovereignty, the statement said.

The Paris meeting also addressed preparations for the fifth summit of the European Political Community, to be held in Budapest on November 7.
The security and defense challenges facing the EU were also discussed, as well as the continuation of assistance to Ukraine.

The two leaders also exchanged views on bilateral relations between France and Hungary.
Emmanuel Macron stressed France’s intention to deepen the partnership in a number of strategic areas, including defense and security issues such as energy supply developments and nuclear energy, and to ensure the development of bilateral trade in the framework of the EU internal market.
Also on Tuesday, Mr. Orbán met Marine Le Pen, the leader of the National Rally party, in Paris to discuss the migration situation in Europe, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister’s press chief, said. The Hungarian politician commented on the meeting in a social media post: “Always a pleasure to meet with a fellow Patriot!”
