Man and Child Found Dead After Standoff With Police
A domestic disturbance in Lawson, Missouri, escalated into a fatal confrontation Sunday night, resulting in the deaths of a man and a 3-year-old boy and leaving a Ray County sheriff’s deputy injured.
Police officers, along with a Ray County deputy, responded to a call around 7:30 p.m. that a man was assaulting a woman at a residence on Montgomery Street. Upon arrival, officers were informed that a child was also present inside the home.
Lawson, a town of approximately 2,500 residents, is located about 40 miles northeast of Kansas City.
What We Know So Far
The male suspect opened fire on the officers, striking the deputy, who was hospitalized with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Officers returned fire, and additional law enforcement, including a tactical team from the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, arrived to assist.
Gunfire was heard inside the home, and when the tactical team entered, they found the man and the child deceased.
The woman who had been assaulted was found safe.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is leading the investigation into the incident. Authorities have not released the identities of the deceased or the injured deputy.
