Julia Stiles Reveals Keepsake From ’10 Things I Hate About You’
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Julia Stiles felt a bittersweet sense of nostalgia after rediscovering a piece of her time on 10 Things I Hate About You.
The 43-year-old actress revealed during an interview with Page Six at the Gotham Awards on Monday, December 2, that she recently found a photo album from the movie.
“When I moved out of my New York City apartment many years ago, I put my stuff in my sister’s storage,” she explained. “And recently, she was like, ‘Oh, I found this photo album,’ and it was photos from 10 Things I Hate About You.” Stiles added, “That was bittersweet—wonderful memories but also sad.”
Stiles starred as Kat Stratford in the romantic comedy alongside the late Heath Ledger, who played her love interest, Patrick Verona. Ledger, who tragically passed away at age 28 in 2008 from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs, delivered a breakout performance in the film.
Stiles also reflected on her time working with co-stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, David Krumholtz, Larissa Oleynik, and Andrew Keegan, noting the excitement of being part of the project. “We were all so excited to be there, having so much fun,” she shared, adding that the young cast enjoyed the experience because they were “not jaded or guarded.”
Stiles is now making her directorial debut with the romantic drama Wish You Were Here, which she also stars in alongside Kelsey Grammer, Gabby Kono, and Jimie Fails. The project, described as a “five-year process” by Stiles, is set to premiere in 2025, though an exact release date has not been announced.
Fans of the classic rom-com can stream the movie with a paid subscription on Disney+, Hulu, and YouTubeTV among others.
