Red Sox Land Two All-Stars in Blockbuster Five-Player Trade Proposal

The Boston Red Sox entered the offseason with intentions to significantly improve their roster. However, they’ve failed to land outfielder Juan Soto and starting pitcher Max Fried despite significant interest. They’ve reportedly balked at the idea of signing Corbin Burnes, too. Could they instead acquire outfielder Kyle Tucker and ace Framber Valdez in a trade with the Houston Astros?
Times could be changing in Houston. It’s still undetermined if third baseman Alex Bregman will re-sign with the club. Tucker and Valdez are both slated to hit free agency at the end of next season. Could the Astros seriously investigate what they’d potentially get in a trade for both All-Stars?

It’s possible. According to The Athletic’s Chandler Rome, Houston is prepared to “listen on anybody” in trade conversations, including Tucker and Valdez. What might it take for the Red Sox to land both stars in one deal? FanSided’s Jacob Mountz put together the following hypothetical five-player swap:
– Red Sox receive: outfielder Kyle Tucker and left-handed pitcher Framber Valdez
– Astros receive: shortstop Franklin Arias, outfielder Miguel Bleis and catcher Brooks Brannon
MLB.com ranks Arias (sixth) and Bleis (eighth) among Boston’s top 10 prospects, while Brannon is ranked 27th overall. It’s worth noting that all three players are years away from the big leagues after finishing 2024 in Single-A. Depending on proposed packages from other interested teams, the Red Sox might need to offer more MLB-ready talent to remain in the conversation.
Tucker is estimated to earn $16.7 million in his final year of arbitration next season. Valdez is estimated to earn $18.8 million before hitting the open market.
