Mass shooting at Queens Nightclub Leaves at Least 10 People Injured
Multiple people have been injured in a shooting at a nightclub in New York City
What to Know
At least 10 people received non-life threatening injuries following an incident at the Amazura event hall in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens.
The shooting took place at around 11:18 p.m. on Wednesday night. Police confirmed the incident is not being treated as a terrorist incident.
The New York Police Department said they received multiple 911 calls that several people had been shot Wednesday night at a venue on 91-12 144th Place.
There were around 90 people inside the venue in an upstairs, private event space. The club was at capacity, with around 15 people waiting outside to enter.
Four males then approached the venue and opened fire over 30 times in the direction of the group standing outside the event space, striking multiple victims. The suspects then fled westbound and entered a light colored sedan with out of state plates.
Six females and four males were taken to area hospitals. All of the victims are expected to recover from their non-life threatening injuries. The ages of the victims are believed to be between 16 and 20 years old.
No arrests have been made, and the NYPD are asking the public for help in catching the perpetrators.
The Amazura was holding a private party at the time for a known gang member who was killed last October whose birthday was on January 1, amNewYork Metro reported citing unnamed sources.
What People are Saying
NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera speaking at a press conference: “Let me start by saying that there’s zero tolerance to these senseless shootings, these horrible acts of violence on our streets, and those responsible for this crime will be apprehended and brought to justice.”
