Jon M. Chu Says Fans Will ‘Melt Into the Ground’ Over Wicked: For Good
Wicked Part Two got its new title and confirmed its release date at the end of 2024, and as director, Jon M. Chu makes his way through awards season, the question on every reporter’s lips is, “What can we expect from Wicked: For Good?”
So far, little has been given away about what we can expect from Wicked: For Good. However, during red-carpet interviews at the Palm Springs International Film Awards, Chu teased a few small details about what’s to come in the highly anticipated sequel.
Speaking with Ema Sasic at The Desert Sun, Chu says, “You’re not just going to cry, you’re going to melt into the ground. If you love (Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s) performances in movie one, just wait for what they do in this movie.”
Jon M. Chu shares what audiences can expect with “Wicked: For Good”:

Chu even let slip a little more info, teasing the film’s tone, saying his stars balance the “humor, drama, and truth… and music, of course. And movement. They can do it all.”
Wicked: For Good is due to hit theaters on November 21, 2025, and will continue the story of Elphaba and Glinda, meeting them where we left off in Wicked.
“Movie two goes even harder,” says Chu. “If you love this relationship, get ready for a rollercoaster ride.”

Chu spoke to Sasic about his relationship with his movie, saying, “For any filmmaker, to one revisit Oz – such an iconic cinematic place – is a dream, and to work with two artists that are coming into their own like Ari and Cynthia feels like a discovery, even though they’ve been around and have millions and millions of fans. It’s been like the best summer camp you could ever imagine, and now the whole world gets to be a part of it. It’s unbelievable. I’m waiting to wake up.”
Wicked scooped up the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement at the Golden Globes last night. It’s the same award won last year by Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.
Ariana Grande says she hasn’t seen Wicked Part Two yet, but that this next chapter is “gonna feel different” from the first installment.
