Man accused of killing his girlfriend in 2001 after reporting her missing in Ohio
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ohio (TCN) — A 60-year-old man has been indicted on charges related to the death of his missing 29-year-old girlfriend, whose remains were found over two decades ago.
According to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office, on July 30, 2001, Jonathan Link reported his girlfriend, Shannon Anderson, missing. Kettering Police searched for the next several weeks and found her body in rural Ross County on Aug. 16, 2001. Her abandoned vehicle was found in the Atlanta airport parking lot.
The case was presented to a Montgomery County grand jury in 2002, but they found there was not sufficient evidence to indict Link at the time.
Investigators from multiple law enforcement agencies and units collected further evidence, interviewed additional witnesses, and presented a case to a jury again. On Jan. 13, the prosecutor’s office announced that the jury indicted Link on two counts of murder. He will be arraigned on Jan. 28.
In a statement, Montgomery Prosecuting Attorney Mat Heck Jr. said, “I applaud the excellent work by the Kettering Police Department and all of the other agencies working together to develop this case so we could present it to the grand jury. Finally, after nearly a quarter century, this defendant will be held responsible for the murder of Shannon Anderson.”
