The Hungarian Sports Journalists’ Association (MSÚSZ) has chosen the Olympic champion swimmer Hubert Kós as athlete of the year in the men’s category, and pentathlete Michelle Gulyás, also a gold medalist in Paris, as the female athlete of the year 2024.
The winners of the 67th edition of the Awards were announced at the Hungarian State Opera House on Monday evening. The gala was broadcast live by M4 Sport sports channel. The rankings were based on 541 votes, beating last year’s record. The association’s presidential board has drawn up lists of ten nominees in five categories.

The best team of the year in traditional team sports was the European bronze medalist women’s handball team, which finished sixth at the Olympics, while the five-time Olympic champion men’s epée team of Tibor Andrásfi, Máté Koch, Dávid Nagy and Gergely Siklósi won the team competition in individual sports.

In the coaches’ category, Vladimir Golovin, the head coach of the women’s handball team, received the most votes.

The MSÚSZ Lifetime Achievement Award was presented by President Tamás Sulyok to 71-year-old László Bölöni, a European Champion Clubs’ Cup-winning footballer and outstanding coach.

For the fifth time, the MSÚSZ has awarded the Sports Moment of the Year, with more than 20,000 votes cast on the list on M4 Sport‘s website, compiled by the association and sports channel experts.
The sports moment of the year was Kevin Csoboth’s 100th-minute winner goal in the group match against Scotland at the European Championship in the summer.

In the competition among disabled athletes, the men’s title was defended by kayaker Péter Pál Kiss for the fifth time in his career, and the women’s title was won by Zsófia Konkoly, who like him won a gold medal in Paris this summer. In the team competition, the women’s wheelchair fencing team (Éva Hajmási, Zsuzsanna Krajnyák, Dr. Boglárka Mező Madarászné, Anna Nádasdy, Amarilla Veres), silver medalists at the Paralympics, emerged first.

In the category Community Sports Event of the Year, the Carpathian Basin Universities Cup received the award.
In the men’s individual category, three-time Olympic champion Katinka Hosszú, who announced her retirement last week, and five-time Olympic gold medalist Ian Thorpe of Australia presented the awards, while the women’s winner was revealed by the President of the Hungarian Olympic Committee, Zsolt Gyulay.
