MLB Rumors: This NL Team Was Top Runner-Up In Tanner Scott Sweepstakes
The Los Angeles Dodgers won the Tanner Scott sweepstakes, but not before holding off a serious run by the Chicago Cubs.
Scott agreed to a four-year, $72 million with the Dodgers on Sunday. After the news broke, Jesse Rogers of ESPN reported Scott’s decision came down to Los Angeles or Chicago, with the defending World Series champions winning out.
Later in the day, MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reported the Cubs offered Scott a four-year, $66 million contract.

Scott had no shortage of interested teams. The Toronto Blue Jays also pursued the star reliever, as did the Boston Red Sox, although there are conflicting reports on their contract offers.
Scott, 30, emerged as one of baseball’s best relievers over the last three seasons.
After posting a 2.31 ERA and 12 saves with the Miami Marlins in 2023, Scott compiled a 1.75 ERA and 2022 across 72 combined appearances for the Marlins and San Diego Padres last season while earning his first All-Star Game appearance.
