Blockbuster Trade Proposal Sees Two West Teams Exchange All-Stars

The NBA trade deadline is a little over two weeks away, and many teams looking to make massive roster changes are already counting down the days.

The big market teams are often viewed as the big players but don’t count out the small market teams. Many of them will look to make big changes, whether that is to build for the future or put them in the contender category for the rest of the season.
This potential trade idea between two teams who have been underwhelming sees them swap All-Stars.
In this trade idea, the Minnesota Timberwolves trade away their star forward, Julius Randle, and send him back to New Orleans for All-Star point guard Dejounte Murray.
Here is what a deal could look like using the Spotrac trade machine and abiding by the new CBA restrictions.
Timberwolves receive: Dejounte Murray
Pelicans receive: Julius Randle and a 2026 first-round pick

The Timberwolves, which are coming off an appearance in the Western Conference Finals, have been beyond underwhelming thus far this season.
Minnesota sits as the ninth seed with a 22-21 record. Although they are only 1.5 games back from the sixth spot, they were projected to be a top-four team in the Western Conference. It is clear that Randle’s fit has not been what they expected, and it may be time to switch things up once again.
The Pelicans have been one of the more disappointing teams this season, and a lot of it has to do with injuries. They currently have a 12-32 record and may choose to go all in for the No. 1 pick.
If this trade indeed happens, Randle will likely be a buyout candidate, as the first-round pick would be a prize for the Pelicans. Randle spent one season in New Orleans during the 2018-19 season.
The Timberwolves need a massive upgrade in their point guard position as Mike Conley is getting older and is undersized for his position. The potential grab of Murray would be a positive for both sides of the ball for Minnesota.
Murray stands at 6-foot-5 with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, which is part of what makes him an elite defender, especially among guards.
If the Timberwolves want to make another deep run in the playoffs, a potential trade for Murray could be the difference.
