Hungarian and Chinese Culture is Gaining Ground in Both Countries

The Government of Hungary remains committed to strengthening Hungarian-Chinese cultural relations, the Minister of Culture and Innovation said on Friday at a ceremony held in Budapest on the occasion of the Chinese Lunar New Year, MTI reported. Balázs Hankó said: China’s most important traditional holiday is the Spring Festival, it has its roots in ancient times and is linked to the fertility ceremony at the beginning of the year.
He recalled that last year marked the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Hungary and China, with the opening of the Liszt Institute in Beijing and the Chinese Cultural Center in Budapest as outstanding achievements.
All this is proof that the two countries count on each other, that the two nations are interested in long-term cooperation and respect each other, which gives new impetus to Hungarian-Chinese cultural relations,”
he stressed.
According to Balázs Hankó, Hungarian and Chinese culture is gaining ground in both countries, in recent years, several major cultural events have been organized showcase their richness. In addition, the interest in Chinese language and culture in Hungary is also steadily growing, which is proof of the success of the Confucius Institutes in Budapest, he added.

According to the Minister, Hungarian universities and research institutes are also cooperating more closely with their Chinese partners, especially in the fields of innovation, health and sustainable development. A special place in Hungary is occupied by the Hungarian-Chinese Bilingual Primary School and Secondary School, which is the only one in Central and Eastern Europe to offer full-time education in Hungarian and Chinese in parallel.
Balázs Hankó said that fourteen universities in China offer Hungarian language courses, and the institutions are in close cooperation with Hungarian higher education: student and teacher exchange programs and joint research are carried out.
Other plans include the organization of the first joint Sino-Hungarian rectors’ forum and the launch of a joint engineering training program in Szeged.
Gong Tao, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, said: Sino-Hungarian relations have entered a “golden age” and will continue to bear fruit in 2025.
