Read more: Lakers Reportedly Didn’t Tell LeBron James About Anthony Davis Trade
The Lakers have been led by generational superstars throughout their history from Magic Johnson to Kobe Bryant. It appears when the Mavericks called inquiring about a trade, it was an opportunity too good for the Lakers to pass up. Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison worked closely with Bryant throughout his career and Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka was his agent.
Though the groundwork may have been laid out for the trade, there had been no speculation that Doncic and Davis would end up switching teams on a random Saturday night.
The Lakers, Mavericks trade will certainly have implications for future transactions that transpire throughout the league. For one, there are concerns that the deal was a lopsided trade.
Furthermore, players may be left with a sense of uncertainty, especially when a franchise’s biggest star is traded away in the dead of night.
Lakers star LeBron James reportedly found out about the trade while he was out to dinner with his family following L.A.’s game against the New York Knicks.
Many people are questioning what was taking place behind the scenes in order for such a monumental trade to go through. The unprecedented news certainly calls into question Doncic’s relationship with Dallas executives as well as Davis’ relationship with the Lakers front office.
Neither Doncic or Davis was warned about the trade or even the idea of one. Beyond the players headlining the trade, just about everybody was in shambles because of the trade.
And those who have missed the news tonight, perhaps will wake up in the morning with their jaws on the floor. Regardless, the Doncic, Davis trade is now cemented in NBA history.
