In 2027 Harghita County will be European Region of Gastronomy. They are drawing attention to this fact to popularize Szekler gastronomy with a record-breaking size booth and an open kitchen at the Romanian Tourism Fair in Bucharest.
According to a statement by the Harghita County Municipality, the tourism fair in Bucharest, to be held between February 20 and 23, will be a good opportunity to showcase the values, tourist services and unique flavors of Szeklerland. The Visit Harghita association will be present with a huge, 120 square meter booth and an open kitchen where visitors can taste local specialties. Each day, a renowned Harghita restaurant will present its signature dishes. Armenian soup flavored with hurut (an iconic armenian seasoning made from milk), magic cake with puliska (dish made with corn grits) and plum, handcrafted chocolates and natural fruit spirits will surely be present.
This year, the Harghita County Assembly and the Harghita Community Development Association will also host decision-makers, government officials, MPs, heads of institutions and opinion leaders from Bucharest at their stand.
The emphasis will be on the presentation of gastronomic values, in line with the award of the title of European Region of Gastronomy 2027,
wrote the Hargita County Municipality.
Barna Botond Bíró, President of the Harghita County Council, stressed that 2027 will create an opportunity to develop not only gastronomy but also a wide range of tourism services. He pointed out that the participants of the Bucharest fair will be able to “get a taste of Harghita County”, to get to know its values and quality services.
Károly Szabó, Executive Director of the Harghita Community Development Association, stressed that Szekler County is mainly dominated by domestic tourism, so it is essential to be represented at the Bucharest Fair. He added that
their long-term goal is to make Harghita County an attractive tourist destination that will be based on nature, gastronomy and family-friendly tourism.
Besides the Visit Harghita stand, several institutions and companies from Harghita County will be present at the fair.
Last year, Harghita County was awarded the title of European Region of Gastronomy 2027, which was received by the President of the County Council, Barna Botond Bíró, on February 6. By winning the title, awarded by the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism (IGCAT), the county located in Szeklerland has been included among the European regions with an outstanding gastronomic heritage, sustainable food network and living cultural traditions.
