Ric Flair Names Three WWE Stars He Wants to See Break His World Title Record

John Cena is about to embark on his last run with WWE as a wrestler and has a shot at history.

Randy Orton is close to breaking the record for most World Title reigns, currently held by John Cena and Ric Flair at 16. However, Charlotte Flair may also break the record, which her father wants to see.

Cena’s retirement tour announcement has sparked speculation about Cena getting one more title run. Orton is already a 14-time WWE World Champion, while Charlotte is a 14-time Women’s World Champion. Many fans believe Cena could set a new record of 17 when he does his retirement tour from in-ring action in December.

Cena has a shot at punching his ticket to WWE WrestleMania 41 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, which goes down on Saturday, April 19th, and Sunday, April 20th, 2025. Cena could challenge Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes for the title. To do so, Cena vs. CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Logan Paul vs. Damian Priest vs. Seth Rollins will make up the men’s Elimination Chamber match at this Saturday’s PLE from Toronto at the Rogers Centre.

The winner of the match will face Rhodes for the title. Should Cena win the title, he will break the World Title record. While speaking on Busted Open Radio, Flair discussed how he hopes to stay tied with Cena for most World Title reigns.

“I thought to myself, ‘If they do this with John, and this is a selfish comment, they’ll be talking about me more on TV than everyone else going in there.’ And when John hit the floor, I went, ‘Damn,’ because it would have really led to a lot of speculation about whether John would break the record.”

Cena’s first chance to guarantee himself a title match at WrestleMania was at the Royal Rumble, but he fell short in the Men’s Royal Rumble match. For Flair, he would rather his daughter, Charlotte, break the record if it were up to him. Regardless, he holds Cena in high regard.

“To me, I’d like it to be one of three people: Randy, Charlotte, or John. Oh, my first pick would be Charlotte. I can tell you I have so much time for John Cena. He truly is one of the really great people in our business and polite and nice, and I mean at least to me.”

Cena’s last world title win was at the Royal Rumble in 2017. In that match, he defeated AJ Styles to win the WWE Championship.
