A new day brings a new Connections game, and if you’re hoping to keep your winning streak alive, you’ve come to the right place.
Since its launch by The New York Times in June 2023, Connections has grown a massive following, challenging players to categorize words based on a shared theme. Today, it’s the outlet’s second-most popular game behind Wordle.

How to Play ‘Connections’
If you’ve never played Connections before—or just need a refresh—the puzzle’s concept is simple to understand. Users are given a table of 16 words that they must separate into four categories: yellow, green, blue and purple. These categories are color-coded, with yellow considered the easiest and purple considered the trickiest.
For instance, Monday’s puzzle linked the words “bolt,” “reel,” “roll” and “scroll” under the blue category: “Cylinder of Material.”
Yesterday’s purple category, meanwhile, was “Seen in The Flintstones,” and the words associated with it were: “bone,” “club,” “dinosaur” and “rubble.”
Fortunately, there’s no time limit to the game, but it’s recommended players choose their words carefully, as they’re only given four opportunities before the answers are revealed.
Wyna Liu, a puzzle editor at the Times who creates the daily brainteasers, recently shared her top tips for defeating the game in an interview with Newsweek.
“My best piece advice is to wait as long as you can before guessing,” she said in June. “You may see the board and have completely identified the category, seeing five words that could belong in that category.”
Liu also advised against “rage solving,” something she admitted to doing herself.
