Tears at What Man Finds in Mailbox From Child Who Lives Next Door
A simple letter from a child to her neighbor has melted hearts online.
In a Reddit post, a user shared the note that was slipped into their father’s mail praising his dog’s adorable appearance. Since the post was published on the subreddit r/MadeMeSmile, it has received 35,000 upvotes and nearly 250 comments from users sharing in the joy.
Written in a child’s handwriting, the message read: “Hi, I am the house connected to you. I looked at the hole in the fence and saw your dog. It is so cute.”

Below the message, the child drew a picture of herself petting the dog, making the heartfelt moment even more touching.
The post went viral, with thousands of people expressing their admiration for the child’s kindness, and bravery. Many have urged the dog’s owner to respond.
“Oh myyyy, that takes so much courage for her to write and deliver it! Please send her a note back with maybe a pic of the dog?” one person suggested. “This is too precious!”
“Knock on the door with the dog and let her pet!” another added. “I would let that kid come over to visit the dog any time they want, this is the sweetest note.”
One particularly creative idea captured the imagination of many:
“Find the hole she looked through,” they instructed. “Write a ‘Dear Mina, Thank you for saying I am cute.’ Signed (your dog’s name) and put his paw print on it. Then roll it up, tie it with a ribbon that has a long tail on it so you can push it through the hole and let it hang there so she will find it. Maybe write ‘To Mina’ on the outside of it.”
The post seemed to capture a unique but relatable experience–one where neighborhood dogs are known and loved by many, especially children growing up nearby.
One user shared a touching experience from their own family: “My parents’ dog…received letters from the next-door neighbor’s son (when he was learning to write). He told her how much he loved her and how ‘bootful’ (beautiful) she was…He would come over to play with her and asked if he could walk her around the block. When his parents ended up moving away, my elderly parents ended up giving her to him (with his parents’ blessing) because he was so very good at taking care of her and she positively adored him back.”
The original poster has yet to share whether their father has responded to the note, but the internet is eagerly awaiting an update. Whether through a letter from the dog, a friendly visit or a simple picture in return, this small gesture has already brought joy to thousands.
