Miami Heat star center Bam Adebayo was fined a hefty amount after making inappropriate contact with and directing profane language toward a game official.
Adebayo was fined $50,000.
The NBA Communications PR shared via X.
“Miami Heat center–forward Bam Adebayo has been fined $50,000 for making inappropriate contact with and directing profane language toward a game official, it was announced today by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations.
“The incident occurred after the end of the fourth quarter of Miami’s 106–104 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on March 7 at the Kaseya Center. “

The incident occurred on Friday night at the end of the fourth quarter in Miami’s 106-104 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
After the game, Adebayo explained what happened from his point of view.
“Nothing. And it wasn’t even about the last play—it was throughout the whole game. I don’t really get too confrontational; I don’t really get into it with the refs because it’s their job, and our job at the end of the day, too. Dudes are fighting for everything on the line… Have the decency to look a man in his eyes and not walk away. That, to me, is utterly disrespectful in a man’s game.”

Adebayo was seen approaching referee Kevin Cutler, visibly frustrated as he voiced his concerns about the game’s officiating. He argued that the foul calls had been inconsistent, disrupting the natural flow of play. His reaction reflected the frustration that can build when players feel the whistle isn’t going both ways.
This came after Adebayo missed the game-winning shot at the end of Friday night.
The Heat dropped their 33rd game of the season to move to 29-33. Miami is currently the seed in the Eastern Conference and is 5.5 games back of the sixth-seeded Detroit Pistons.
In the season, Adebayo has been phenomenal averaging 17.7 points per game, 10.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 49 percent from the field and 30.8 percent from three in 60 games and 34.4 minutes of action.
Regardless of the loss, Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra spoke on his star center’s efforts.
“He was just tremendous,” Spoelstra said of Adebayo. “I mean, look, if I could have played him 48-plus minutes in a 48-minute game, I would have. I probably should have.”
The Heat will host the Chicago Bulls on a second night of a back-to-back on Saturday night.
