AEW Locks Down Former WWE Star Swerve Strickland To Long-Term Deal

Swerve Strickland had a strong 2024 that put a proper stamp on his career. He won the World Title before losing it to Bryan Danielson in the main event of AEW’s biggest pay-per-view event of the year in All In.
Strickland has experienced a significant rise in AEW, establishing himself as a top-tier performer. He’s been in notable feuds with Hangman Page and Ricochet in recent memory.
During an appearance on the Bootleg Kev podcast, the former AEW World Heavyweight Champion revealed his new AEW contract is for five years, while also discussing the positive impact of competition in the wrestling industry.
“Yup (I’m signed to AEW until 2029). There’s nowhere else I would rather be. A lot of people say, ‘Oh, that’s just a PR. He’s supposed to say that sh*t.’ Nah, I mean that sh*t from the bottom of my heart.
There’s no other place I’d rather be and do I have bad days as opposed to good days? Of course. This is a job. I have frustrations here and there. But, I work through those frustrations better here than I did in other places and anywhere else in the world.

Strickland will challenge Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship. He earned his title shot by defeating Ricochet at Revolution.
Strickland concluded the pay-per-view with a decisive Swerve Stomp, targeting both Moxley and a group of security guards. As of this writing, it’s unclear when he will get the title bout.
In 2019, he joined WWE under a developmental contract, performing as Isaiah “Swerve” Scott in NXT. During his NXT tenure, he became a member of the Hit Row stable and captured the NXT North American Championship. However, following a main roster call up to SmackDown, he was released in November 2021. He rebranded himself as Swerve Strickland and signed with AEW in March 2022.
