European Space Agency Launches Tender for Hungarian Companies

The European Space Agency (ESA), in cooperation with Hungary’s Ministry for National Economy, has announced a EUR 2 million tender to support the development of new generation network technology solutions and defense and security space systems by Hungarian companies and research institutes.

The aim of the tender is to build and develop Hungarian satellite communication capabilities, thus strengthening the competitiveness of Hungarian industry in the European and global market, the Ministry said in a statement. The tender was preceded by a professional event in November last year, in the framework of which the Ministry and the space agency jointly assessed the potential of Hungarian companies in the field of building and developing communication satellite capabilities, the Ministry recalled.

The tender’s categories 5G and 6G, as well as defense and security space systems, are open to companies and research institutes that carry out the supported activities in Hungary and submit their registrations in time. The funding covers the development of hardware or software systems or services.

Szabolcs Szolnoki, Deputy State Secretary for Technology at the Ministry for National Economy, said in the announcement that

the space industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world, with global revenues set to exceed USD 1,100 billion by 2040.

“The programs developed in cooperation with the Hungarian delegation, led by the European Space Agency and the Ministry for National Economy, will not only shape the future of space activities, but will also play a key role in digital development. In recent years, Hungary has achieved outstanding results in this crisis-resistant industry, and now, after the period of recovery, it is time for a change of scale and growth,” said the Deputy State Secretary.
