Trump Admin Responds to Ukraine’s Capture of Chinese Troops
The State Department said it was disturbed by reports of the capture of two Chinese citizens fighting for the Russian army inside Ukraine, and called China a “major enabler” of Moscow’s war.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the capture of the Chinese citizens in Donetsk on Tuesday, and said Kyiv was seeking answers from Beijing.
“It’s disturbing. It’s disturbing with North Korea participating. It’s disturbing with the Chinese soldiers having been captured,” State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce told reporters on Tuesday.
“We’re aware of those reports that Ukraine captured two Chinese citizens fighting on behalf of Russia in Ukraine.
“China is a major enabler of Russia in the war in Ukraine. China provides nearly 80 percent of the dual-use items Russia needs to sustain the war. Eighty percent comes from China.
As President Trump has said, continued cooperation between these two nuclear powers will only further contribute to global stability and make the United States and other countries less safe, less secure, and prosperous.
“I think that’s an understatement.”
This is a developing story and more information will be added shortly.
