Mom Leaves Toddlers Alone for 5 Minutes—Shock at What They Do
A Brisbane mom was left in tears after discovering what her 2- and 3 year olds had done to each other.
Stephanie Mullins (@stephaniejmullins) was changing the bedsheets upstairs while her daughters were settled in front of Peppa Pig when she had a daunting feeling they were being too quiet.
“I called out and I heard them cry out ‘runnnnnnnnn!’ to each other, so I rushed down, as I knew something was up,” the 38-year-old told Newsweek.
What she saw next made her stomach drop. Mullins described the scene as a “trail of destruction” in a clip on TikTok, where chunks of hair lay all over the floor.
“As I followed the trail through the living room, I started to piece together what had happened, but I truly wasn’t prepared for what I was about to see,” she said.
Her two toddlers—who previously had long hair and bangs—were now rocking DIY haircuts. Clumps of hair were missing, and their long locks had been transformed into patchy, uneven mullets.
“One has jagged, micro bangs and random chunks missing, and the other has tracks, and the most extreme mullet I have ever seen,” Mullins described. “I couldn’t even get angry at them, I was too upset, so they all just cuddled me.”
The sisters, who are just a year apart, are bold, curious and inseparable, according to their mom. “They love to play pretend, and I guess this time ‘pretend salon’ got a little too real. They weren’t even upset—they were genuinely proud of their work,” Mullins said.

The clip has been viewed 1.5 million times and received over 50,000 likes.
Out of the thousands who commented, some TikTok users had similar stories.
“My cousin cut my fringe to the root two weeks before my parents wedding,” one user wrote.
Another shared that their sister asked them to give her a haircut: “[It] turned into a horrifying nightmare to my mother. After school, I came home to [my] sister looking like a boy.”
Others reassured Mullins and encouraged her not to worry about her daughters’ appearance.
One TikTok user shared how their son cut half his fringe off when he was about 4. “You will laugh about this!” she wrote.
Mullins captioned her clip: “Might laugh in 20 years,” but she told Newsweek that she’s still coming to terms with it.
“I am just extremely grateful that no one was injured, but I am yet to see the funny side,” she said. “I’m sure I will find it funny one day, but for now, I am so upset they have cut off their beautiful hair.”
