Canada’s Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre lost his own seat in Monday’s election, capping off a devastating night for his party as they were decisively beaten by Mark Carney‘s Liberal Party.
Poilievre, who has been leader of the Official Opposition and leader of the Conservative Party since 2022, suffered a shock defeat to the Liberal party’s Bruce Fanjoy in his own riding of Carleton, a seat he has held as a member of Parliament since 2004.
With 264 out of 266 polls reporting, Fanjoy leads Poilievre by 3,793 votes and has 42,374 votes so far compared to Poilievre’s 38,581.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
