Cabrera has had mild success in Major League Baseball as a member of both the St. Louis Cardinals and the Toronto Blue Jays. Last season, Cabrera finished with a 3.59 ERA in 69 appearances for the Blue Jays before signing with the Mets in the offseason. With two lefties on the injured list for the foreseeable future, Cabrera is going to have to step up and fill their role in the bullpen.
The second call-up that the Mets made was right-hander Ty Adcock, who made his major league debut in 2023 for the Seattle Mariners. Adcock was with the Mets at times last season but would only make three appearances, posting a 14.54 ERA. The Mets hope that the kinks are worked out for the 2019 draft pick and he can help pick up the slack in the Mets bullpen.
To make room for the pair on the 40-man roster, the Mets moved Minter and starting pitcher Frankie Montas to the 60-day IL. Minter is feared to potentially undergo season-ending surgery, which could create a major hole in the bullpen for the boys from Queens.
Making space on the Major League roster, the Mets have sent down relievers Chris Devenski and Brandon Waddell to Triple-A Syracuse. The Mets’ pitching staff has taken quite the blow in the past week, and they are leaning on Cabrera and Adcock to stop the leaks as they set their sights on October once more.
