Shane Lowry Leaves Fan Hanging amid Truist Championship Heartbreak
The PGA Tour’s sixth Signature Event of the 2025 season concluded on Sunday, as Austrian pro Sepp Straka earned his fourth career title at the Truist Championship.
Straka held off Shane Lowry and Justin Thomas to finish the tournament at 16-under, two shots clear of both men. But as the players came down the stretch, Lowry was actually tied atop the leaderboard with three holes to play.
Lowry pulled even with Straka after birdieing the par-5 15th.
As he walked up a set of stairs leading toward the 16th tee, the former Open champion then left a young fan hanging.
NGL, Shane Lowry didn’t deserve to win after leaving that little girl hanging on the easy high 5 on 15. This was pathetic 👎🏽👎🏽

A little girl was seen on CBS’ coverage looking for a high-five from Lowry, who walked right past her. To be fair, he was likely locked in mentally and might not have noticed her.
But there were plenty of fans that did not let him off the hook.
“Shane Lowry is a real lowlife. Leaves a little girl hanging,” one fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Another golf fan felt the same way.
“Bro I was coming online to say this! I’m so glad he lost,” he wrote.
“Lowry can’t win without Rory,” another chimed in. Lowry and Rory McIlroy captured the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in 2024, the only team event on the PGA Tour.

But after pulling even with Straka and appearing to shun the little girl, he hit some ill-timed poor shots that cost him a shot at the title.
Lowry bogeyed both 16 and 18 to drop into a tie for second place.
Afterward, the Irish pro decided not to speak to the media. That is something that has brought with it a ton of flack from fans.
“Then he refuses to speak to media! Lmao! 🤦🏽♂️,” Pro Golf Critic wrote.
McIlroy skipped his post-round presser at last year’s U.S. Open following an unreal collapse. Then, Collin Morikawa recently came under fire for the same thing after he faltered late at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Add Lowry to the list of professional golfers who lost in heartbreaking fashion and did not have the gumption to stand up and face the music.
Conversely, PGA Tour fan favorite Joel Dahmen, who recently crumbled tragically and lost a tournament he had in his pocket, spent nearly 15 minutes with the media afterward.
Meanwhile, Lowry extended his 10-year drought on the PGA Tour. The last individual win (outside of majors) was the 2015 WGC Bridgestone Invitational.
