Charles Barkley Doesn’t Hold Back About Golden State Warriors’ Future After Elimination

The Golden State Warriors saw their season come to an end on Wednesday night, losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 by a final score of 121-110. It was a disappointing end, especially due to the fact that they went out without superstar point guard Stephen Curry on the court.
After winning Game 1 of the series but losing Curry in the process, the Warriors never looked the same. It was clear that they were no match for the Timberwolves without Curry leading the charge.
Now, heading into the NBA offseason, there are a lot of questions about what Golden State needs to do to win another championship.

Charles Barkley, the NBA legend and current analyst, spoke out with a strong take about the Warriors’ future. He did not give a very good outlook for the current makeup of Golden State’s roster.

During a segment on “Inside the NBA,” Barkley dropped his thoughts about the future for the Warriors.
“You can’t go to war with three old guys against the West,” Barkley said.
He continued on, talking more about the upcoming decision that Golden State faces with Jonathan Kuminga. The front office will have to decide whether it believes enough in him to pay him, or if they need to move on and trade him for the best value they can get.
“The Kuminga thing is interesting ‘cuz the three old guys are making a lot of money, so you’re pretty much stuck with them for the next two years. And the Kuminga thing, we’re like, ‘Damn, he either plays or he doesn’t play.’ But now you’ve got to make a decision. You’ve got to make a decision whether to pay him or not,” he said.

Looking ahead to next season, the current roster could compete. However, the Warriors are clearly not able to withstand a key injury. If Curry or Jimmy Butler were to go down, Golden State might fall apart again.
It will be interesting to see what the Warriors choose to do. They could look to swing a big deal for another star, or they might opt to run it back. Kuminga might be able to keep developing and become the third star Golden State needs.
Barkley doesn’t think the current makeup for the Warriors will work, but perhaps they can prove him wrong.
