Trophies in professional sports are meant to signify greatness. There are many memorable trophies across the sports world, with the NHL’s Stanley Cup top of mind.
But one of the other trophies that stand out is the Wanamaker Trophy, awarded to the winner of the PGA Championship each year.
This year, that player is Scottie Scheffler, who made history by winning the 107th PGA Championship on Sunday. The World No. 1 was overcome with emotion from the very second his final putt on 18 dropped, even breaking character.

Normally stoic, Scheffler viciously slammed his hat to the ground and let out a wail, “F*** yeah.” After he was congratulated by his family and friends, it was time for him to receive the Wanamaker Trophy.
That’s when a tragic ending nearly occurred.
On his second trophy lift, the top of the Wanamaker toppled off onto the ground. But the three-time major champion was not deterred. He proceeded to hold it up for the fans anyway.
Of course, this was not the first time such an occurrence happened at the PGA Championship. Just three years ago, the same thing happened to Collin Morikawa.
One might think Scheffler knows how to handle a trophy by now.
After all, he has won 15 PGA Tour events and the three major championships. In doing so, he actually became just the third player ever to accomplish that feat before turning 29 years of age.
The other two: Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.
The legend of Scottie Scheffler only continues to grow. Not only is he a three-time major champion, but everyone knows that when he putts well, the tournament is practically over before it starts. He missed the first month of the 2025 PGA Tour season after suffering a hand injury that required surgery.
Upon his return, all he has done is win the CJ Cup Byron Nelson by tying the 72-hole PGA Tour scoring record, and now claim the Wanamaker Trophy.
He is yet to miss a cut and has finished inside the top 20 in every tournament. It appears he is head and shoulders better than every golfer on the planet. The last time a golf fan could say that was 20 years ago during Tiger Woods’ prime.
