Blood-covered woman arrested after police find man’s body in locked closet
HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (TCN) — A 53-year-old woman is in custody on suspicion of fatally shooting a man and leaving his body in a closet.
According to the Horry County Police Department, on Friday, May 16, officers responded to a home in the Burgess area to perform a welfare check. Per an incident report reviewed by WPDE-TV, police were called to the residence because of a suspicious vehicle parked against the front door.
Joyanna Vansant, who no longer lives at the location, reportedly answered the door covered in blood. Officers allegedly noticed a “large blood trail” through the home.
According to WPDE, the arrest warrant alleges that Vansant “made an excited utterance that the victim was in the back of the house and that she has changed her clothes due to them being soaked in blood.”
Police purportedly discovered 60-year-old Frederick Vansant Jr. deceased in a locked closet. Investigators allege Vansant fatally shot the victim in the head. Officers did not disclose the relationship between the two.
Vansant was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. She remains held in the Horry County Jail.
