L-R: Chen Wenqing and Viktor Orbán
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held talks with Chen Wenqing, secretary of the central political and legal affairs in the Communist Party of China, in Budapest on Friday morning.
Mr. Orbán emphasized that the stability of Hungarian-Chinese relations is becoming increasingly important in the current challenging global economic environment.
Hungary’s position is that Europe’s competitiveness is served by cooperation with China and strengthening connectivity, not by artificially dividing East and West,”
he emphasized.

In 2024, China was the most important investor in Hungary in terms of investment volume. Chinese companies such as CATL, Semcorp, EVE Power, and Sunwoda operate in the country, contributing significantly to the performance of the Hungarian economy.
Last week, Viktor Orbán received Wang Chuanfu, BYD’s chairman and CEO, and Wang Weizhong, Governor of Guangdong, China, in his office. After the meeting, the parties announced that the Chinese company will relocate its headquarters to Hungary. BYD is already building its first European factory in Szeged (southern Hungary) where production is planned to start in the autumn.
Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó recalled at a conference in April that
in 2020, 2023, and 2024, Chinese companies brought the most investment to Hungary.
In Hungary, 54 modern Chinese large-scale investments worth HUF 7,000 billion (EUR 17.3 billion) have been created in the last ten years with the support of the government, directly creating more than 30,000 new jobs.
