Packers Attempted to Make Intriguing Wide Receiver Trade: Report
Heading into the 2025 NFL offseason, the Green Bay Packers were expected to be aggressive and look to make some splash moves. One of the main positions of need was wide receiver.
Leading up to the draft, there was not much action for the Packers at the position. They signed former Kansas City Chiefs’ wideout Mecole Hardman, but that was it. However, general manager Brian Gutekunst addressed the position twice in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Green Bay went out and selected former Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden in the first round. The front office doubled down at the position with former TCU standout Savion Williams in the third round.

While it was surprising to see the team remain quiet at wide receiver ahead of the draft, the Packers did try to make a move.

According to a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Green Bay was among the teams who tried to trade for Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman. He was recently signed to an extension by the Ravens, who opted against trading him.
Bateman would have been a very intriguing pickup for the Packers. He has shown flashes of huge potential, but consistency has been a problem to begin his NFL career.
Through his first four seasons in the league, Bateman has played in 52 games. He has racked up 138 receptions for 1,923 yards and 13 touchdowns.
During the 2024 season, Bateman had his best year yet. He caught 45 passes for 756 yards and nine touchdowns.
At 25 years old, Bateman received a three-year, $36.75 million contract from Baltimore. He will continue to be one of Lamar Jackson’s top weapons.

Green Bay, on the other hand, now has a logjam at the wideout position. The Packers have Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Golden, Williams, Dontayvion Wicks, and Bo Melton. Truthfully, they are likely going to have to move on from at least one of their top names.
Gutekunst and the front office have built and impressive wide receiver room. They will still need one of those wideouts to step up and become the No. 1 target for Jordan Love, but they have plenty of options.
Fans can at least rest easy knowing that Green Bay did try to make a move. Bateman would have been an excellent addition to the offense.
