Texas man accused of stabbing his neighbor to death more than 30 years ago
IRVING, Texas (TCN) — Police recently arrested a 61-year-old man on suspicion of fatally stabbing his 29-year-old neighbor more than three decades ago.
According to the Irving Police Department, on Oct. 5, 1994, Megan Johns failed to show up to work. The apartment manager reportedly looked inside Johns’ home and saw her body on the living room floor with multiple stab wounds.
Investigators suspected Johns knew her attacker and let him in, as there were no signs of forced entry. Police noted the home had been ransacked, suggesting the suspect was looking for something or that Johns had tried to fight off her attacker.
According to police, Johns struggled with drugs and alcohol but got clean. At the time of her death, she was allegedly helping people to become sober and was around people who had a history of drug and alcohol use.
Officials found a palm print at the scene and interviewed people, but no arrests were made, and the case went cold.
According to police, investigators recently tested DNA and entered a profile into the Combined DNA Index System. As a result, authorities identified Darryl Goggans as the primary suspect. Goggans reportedly lived next door to Johns at the time of her death.
Goggans was arrested on June 10 and charged with capital murder. He remains held in the Irving City Jail.
