Viktor Orbán has expressed his deepest condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India after the devastating plane crash in India claimed hundreds of lives. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ families and all those affected by this tragedy,” the Hungarian Prime Minister wrote on social media platform X, expressing solidarity during this time of mourning.
On June 12, Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, tragically crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, India.
I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Prime Minister @narendramodi and the people of India after the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and all those affected by this tragedy.

The aircraft, destined for London Gatwick, was carrying 242 people – 230 passengers and 12 crew members. The flight lost signal just seconds after departure and crashed into a residential area. The crash has resulted in at least 269 fatalities, including 241 people on the flight and at least 28 individuals on the ground. Remarkably, one passenger, British national, survived the crash.
There are no Hungarian citizens among the victims of the tragic plane crash,
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Máté Paczolay confirmed on Thursday to MTI. He added that Hungary’s embassy remains in close contact with local authorities, and consular staff are ready to assist any Hungarian nationals in the region if needed.
President Tamás Sulyok also shared his thoughts on social media about the tragic news, expressing deep sorrow. “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic accident of the plane en route from Ahmedabad airport to London. My sincere condolences to the families of the victims,” the President wrote on X.
