WWE Legend Jerry Lawler Shares Heartbreaking Health Update
Jerry “The King” Lawler continues to deal with the effects of a stroke he suffered in 2023. The WWE Hall of Famer recently spoke about his ongoing cognitive struggles.
During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Lawler had difficulty recalling specific names. This became apparent when he discussed facing a top WWE star.
Jerry Lawler Discusses Cognitive Challenges
While telling a story, Lawler struggled to remember the name of CM Punk. He could only describe his former opponent’s current role in the company.
“Oh gosh, I just can’t think of their names,” Lawler said (H/T to SEScoops). “One of them is one of the top heels or babyfaces right now.”
Host Mark Henry had to prompt Lawler with the name. Later in the interview, Lawler also had trouble recalling Terry Funk.
This led him to directly address how the stroke has impacted his memory. He expressed frustration with the lingering issues.

“My mind just goes because of the stroke,” he stated. “I’m sorry, I just have these… I don’t know… these bouts with my strokes and stuff like that, but I just can’t help it.”
Despite these challenges, Lawler remains active. He continues to make public appearances at wrestling conventions and events.
Jerry Lawler’s Impact
He first made a name for himself as the top star of Memphis wrestling, where he held the AWA World Heavyweight Championship and engaged in a groundbreaking, mainstream feud with comedian Andy Kaufman in the early 1980s.
In 1992, Lawler joined WWE, where he became most famous as the heel color commentator alongside Jim Ross during the Attitude Era. His biased commentary and signature catchphrases defined the sound for a generation of WWE fans. A 2007 WWE Hall of Fame inductee, Lawler continued to make appearances for the company for decades.
Lawler is one of the greatest and most underrated wrestlers in the history of the business. He is also one of the most high-profile promotions from his day.
