Maryland man pleads guilty to killing his girlfriend’s husband
WASHINGTON (TCN) — A 28-year-old man will likely spend over a decade behind bars for killing his girlfriend’s husband nearly three years ago.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, Keyon Slaughter pleaded guilty on June 20 to the murder of Dana Bailey Jr. He is set to be sentenced on Aug. 29. Slaughter’s plea calls for a 16-year prison sentence, plus five years of supervised release.
On the morning of Dec. 5, 2022, Slaughter reportedly went into Bailey’s apartment, confronted him, and fatally shot him in the chest with a .40 caliber handgun. The defendant then fled the home and later went to North Carolina. Prosecutors said Slaughter was “engaged in a relationship” with the victim’s wife.
At the time of the shooting, authorities said Slaughter was on supervised probation for a 2019 conviction for armed robbery out of Charles County, Maryland. Officials arrested him in July 2023 in the case, and he has remained in custody since.
