Mavericks’ Nico Harrison Facing Major Backlash After Cooper Flagg Comments

After the Dallas Mavericks decided to trade generational superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers before the NBA trade deadline, general manager Nico Harrison became the most disliked man in the city.

Immediately, calls for him to be fired took the limelight. Fans continued to chant “Fire Nico” at home games and rip into him on social media.

Luckily, the Mavericks were gifted the No. 1 overall pick after having just a 1.8 percent chance to win the NBA Draft lottery. That left them with the opportunity to select Duke phenom Cooper Flagg, which is an opportunity that they took.

Flagg immediately makes the future outlook appear brighter for Dallas. He has a chance to become a legitimate superstar at the NBA level.

Harrison, on the other hand, is still not receiving much love from the fans.

During the team’s press conference introducing Flagg following the NBA Draft, Harrison did himself no favors. When talking about Flagg and the team, he mentioned that fans could now finally start seeing the “vision” of the move to trade Doncic.

Fans did not hesitate to fire back at him for his blind luck in landing Flagg.

“He sliced his drive into the woods and wants to brag about it bouncing off of a tree into the fairway like that was the plan. No shame,” one fan commented.

Another chimed in, “If this was the vision, the draft lottery was rigged?”

“Nico Harrison and the Mavs lucked into Cooper Flagg. Nico acting like this was some kind of master plan that required his intellect is just laughably ridiculous,” a third fan wrote.

A fourth comment read, “He envisioned trading Luka in exchange for Adam Silver giving him the #1 draft pick?”

“Fans are pretty sure Nico will probably trade Cooper for a couple of mid tier players nearing retirement,” a fifth fan said.

Obviously, the fans are not ready to forgive Harrison for trading Doncic. No one can blame the fans either. Doncic is on track to becoming one of the best players the NBA has ever seen.

Add to that the fact that Harrison acted like he foresaw the Mavericks winning the No. 1 pick is not a great look. No one can predict that kind of luck.

It’s clear that Harrison is headed into yet another season of hostility. Dallas fans are not going to relent on their calls for Harrison’s job, although landing Flagg has helped take some of the pain away from Doncic being gone.
