Hungary-Jordan cooperation offers great potential, minister says

There is great potential in cooperation between Hungary and Jordan, so the sides will continue working on developing relations, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Tuesday.

The ministry cited Szijjarto as saying at a joint press conference with Yousef Al Shamali, Jordan’s Minister of Industry and Trade, after a meeting of the bilateral economic mixed committee that an agreement on developing cooperation between companies would be signed at a business forum to be held in the afternoon. The sides are also set to finalise an agreement on avoiding double taxation, he added.

He welcomed a 15 percent growth in bilateral trade last year and added that a 43 percent increase has already been recorded so far this year. The export of Hungarian pharmaceutical goods and dairy products especially increased in the recent period, he added.

A water management working group has been set up by the two governments which will be tasked with supplying Hungary’s highly developed water management technologies to Jordan, he said. Agreements have been signed between universities and research institutions in the two countries in the areas of agricultural research and modernisation, and food safety, he said.

He also said that 50 percent more tourists arrived from Jordan to Hungary this year compared with 2023, partly thanks to a total of six flights operating between major cities of the two countries.

Szijjarto said that a bilateral higher education cooperation would be extend by three years allowing 400 Jordanian students to study in Hungary annually.
