The government is working to make Lake Balaton a more livable region with a high standard of living, said the Minister of Public Administration and Regional Development on Saturday at the opening of the cultural and tourist visitor center in Révfülöp, located on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, in western Hungary.
Tibor Navracsics emphasized it was important to provide services that help residents feel their home is not only defined by its beauty, but also by a strong sense of care and community.
He added that living in the Balaton region is a privilege, but it also comes with responsibility, as those who live here must pay attention to the condition of Lake Balaton and the communities, as well as to the preservation of traditions.
Tibor Navracsics noted that Révfülöp is not only one of the most beautiful spots in one of the most beautiful regions of the country, but also a centrally located town on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, between Balatonfüred and Keszthely.
As Tapolca is only about 15 kilometers from the lake, it was decided to create as many facilities as possible in Révfülöp to serve the comfort of those living in the area. For this reason, an ambulance station and a government office were established, and the local government building was renovated,”
he added.
The Minister of Public Administration and Regional Development also pointed out that not a week goes by in Hungary without the handover of a significant facility that has been built with European Union funds. He added that he was confident that agreement would be reached with the European Commission during the current development period and that the funds currently suspended would be disbursed.
Géza Kondor, the independent mayor of Révfülöp, said that with the opening of the cultural and tourist visitor center a decades-long dream had come true for the town’s residents, as they previously had no venue where fifty people could gather.
Fact
The cultural and tourist visitor center was built with a non-repayable grant of 533.6 million forints (approximately 1.34 million euros), according to the local government. The ground floor of the building, located near Lake Balaton and the pier, houses a large hall for events and exhibitions, as well as an interactive exhibition showcasing the local history collection. The central reception area features a tourist information office, toilets, stairs, and a lift leading to the attic, where a community space suitable for cultural, musical, and social events has been created.
