Iulian Chifu, foreign policy analyst and former presidential advisor, described Hungarian-Romanian relations as “very good neighborly relations” at the Bálványos Free Summer University.
In an interview with Maszol.ro, he emphasized that although there are issues on which the two governments have different positions, dialogue is ongoing, allowing both sides to express their arguments and points of view.
This is a natural, democratic, European state of affairs, and it can lead to agreements that are beneficial to both sides,”
he emphasized.

The analyst believes good Hungarian-Romanian relations are based on continuous communication and mutual respect, which enables the two countries to solve common challenges. He said: “At the most recent informal meeting between Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, they found many common issues, clearly indicating a willingness for constructive dialogue.”
The foreign policy expert also pointed out that the situation of the Hungarian community in Romania has a significant impact on the quality of bilateral relations. In this regard, he said that Bucharest is seeking to resolve the problems of the Romanian minority in Ukraine, similar to those of the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia (Ukraine), through negotiations rather than through messages.
Romanian diplomacy is decisive and courageous, but it is important to understand that when another country is at war, it is not public battles that matter, but diplomatic negotiations and dialogue,”
he explained.
In conclusion, Iulian Chifu emphasized that the key to successful Hungarian-Romanian relations is maintaining dialogue. “If we maintain this openness and constructiveness, we will be able to continue to enjoy strong and beneficial relations that serve the interests of both nations,” he said.
