Teacher accused of killing married couple while they were hiking with their kids
SPRINGDALE, Ark. (TCN) — State police recently announced the arrest of a teacher accused of killing a couple while they were hiking with their two young daughters.
According to Arkansas State Police, on July 26, 28-year-old Andrew McGann allegedly fatally attacked 43-year-old Clinton Brink and 41-year-old Cristen Brink, who were with their children, ages 7 and 9, at Devil’s Den State Park. The kids were reportedly unharmed and are safe with relatives.
State police did not say how the couple died but released a composite sketch of a person of interest in their deaths. Authorities said the suspect likely suffered an injury during the incident.
State police arrested McGann at a barbershop in Springdale on July 30, according to state police and The Associated Press. He faces two counts of capital murder.
McGann was reportedly hired to work for Springdale Public Schools in the upcoming year. The Associated Press reports that he has teaching licenses in Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma. He purportedly worked as a teacher in Oklahoma until May but resigned to take a job in another state.
In a statement, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders said, “No news can heal the enormous harm done to the Brink family in last weekend’s crime, but this announcement is a comfort and reassurance for our state.”
Arkansas State Police Col. Mike Hagar added, “I’m extremely grateful for the long hours and dedication that our agents put forward in bringing justice to this family.”
