Arizona man allegedly killed his mother in a ‘sudden flash of rage’
TUCSON, Ariz. (TCN) — Police recently arrested a 49-year-old man on suspicion of killing his 74-year-old mother inside their shared home and staying with her body for days before leaving.
According to the Tucson Police Department, on July 25, officers responded to a residence on East Monte Vista Drive to perform a welfare check. Police reportedly located Sarane Lyons deceased inside.
Investigators learned Sarane Lyons lived in the home with her adult son, Michael Lyons. Police said he wasn’t in the residence at the time and hadn’t been seen for several days.
On July 31, Michael Lyons went into the Tucson Police Department and spoke with detectives. Per a complaint reviewed by KGUN-TV, Lyons claimed he unintentionally killed his mother, saying, “It happened in a sudden flash of rage.”
Lyons reportedly told investigators that during an argument with the victim, his palm hit her head and she struck concrete. Lyons allegedly tried to place his mother on the couch, but she was too heavy, and he put her on the ground. According to the complaint, the suspect reportedly knew the victim had died, but he didn’t call for help and remained in the residence for three days before leaving.
Lyons was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
