Mercedes to Open Hungary’s Largest Car Factory Next Year

Mercedes is establishing Hungary’s largest car factory, Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, announced at the 40th Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix over the weekend.
The minister said at the Hungaroring that he had held talks with representatives of the German car manufacturer before the race, and on this basis Mercedes’ investment in Kecskemét (central Hungary) is progressing excellently, so that
in the first quarter of next year, the production of completely new Mercedes models with completely new technology can begin in Kecskemét.
“With this investment, the Mercedes factory in Kecskemét will become Hungary’s largest car factory. With a capacity of 300,000, Hungary will be able to produce one million vehicles per year,” said Péter Szijjártó.
The minister added that this will put the country in a very exclusive European club, and that “completely new models will be created using completely new technology,” and Kecskemét will be the only place on the continent where Mercedes has a car factory and a battery assembly plant operating in close proximity to each other.
Mercedes has one such location in the United States and one in China, but in Europe it will only be here. We have a very special status within Mercedes, and Mercedes also has a very special status in Hungary,”
said the minister.
The politician also said that Mercedes is making major investments in Hungary, and this long-standing cooperation dating back more than a decade, is “very important now, when the global economic situation is not exactly bright.”
“In this situation, we are working with Mercedes to ensure that Hungary can turn these global difficulties to its advantage. The German manufacturer is our strategic partner, and we are now working with them and our other strategic partners to turn these difficulties to our advantage, even in this difficult situation created by the incompetence of Ursula von der Leyen and the European Commission, so that Hungary can emerge from this situation just as victorious as it has from previous crises,” concluded Péter Szijjártó.
