University of Szeged Launches Landmark Dual-Degree Program in China

The University of Szeged (SZTE) is launching a nationwide academic program in cooperation with Shaanxi Normal University (SNNU) in China. The undergraduate program will span four years, with students spending three years in China and one year in Hungary, announced the universities Directorate for Public Relations.
According to the statement, the program will admit 120 students per year, welcoming applicants not only from Shaanxi Province but from across China. In China, such nationwide dual-degree programs with international partners are considered rare and prestigious.
SNNU is located in Xi’an, the historical capital of China known globally for the Terracotta Army.
The institution enjoys a high level of prestige and international recognition. The foundations for cooperation between SZTE and SNNU were laid in September 2022 through a formal partnership agreement.
Since then, negotiations have continued, culminating in the launch of this joint program set to begin this autumn. Graduates will earn degrees from both universities upon completion.
Students will complete their first three years of study at SNNU, followed by a final year at SZTE. The curriculum will focus on cutting-edge knowledge in engineering informatics. A group of Chinese students is currently in Szeged participating in a summer university program organized jointly by the two institutions.
During their stay, they are introduced to the basics of the Hungarian language and culture, gain insights into Hungarian heritage, and visit sites such as the Ópusztaszer National Historical Heritage Park and the ELI ALPS laser research institute.
SZTE’s ties with China continue to deepen, as this autumn, the Faculty of Humanities will offer a Chinese language specialization within its Department of Altaic Studies. Additional academic and research collaborations with SNNU and other Chinese partner institutions are also planned in the foreseeable future, the statement added.
