Colts’ Anthony Richardson Injured After Taking Massive Hit
One of the biggest games of NFL Preseason Week 1 is the Indianapolis Colts vs the Baltimore Ravens. The Colts chose to start quarterback Anthony Richardson, but things may have backfired.

Richardson snapped the ball and was unaware of a rushing David Ojabo, who came in untouched.
Richardson took a massive hit and was immediately shown jogging to the sideline. His day is definitely over, and he could be facing some time off if the hit caused a major injury.
Further reports indicate via replays that Richardson may have suffered a finger issue. If that issue is on his throwing hand, that would be devastating.
Per the report from Mike Garofolo, Richardson had a hard time gripping the ball following the massive hit.

The bigger issue with the Richardson injury is that the young signal caller has been dealing with ailments in his short career. He missed the majority of his rookie season after suffering an AC joint injury, and he missed multiple games in 2024 due to an oblique injury.
If Richardson suffered anything significant, he may not be the starting quarterback for the Colts in 2025.
The Colts have been engaging in a big quarterback battle between Richardson and Jones. According to Colts head coach Shane Steichen, the battle has been “neck-and-neck.”
If Jones can showcase some elite skill in the matchup with the Ravens, he may just edge out Richardson for the starting position. This would be especially true if Richardson suffered any sort of significant injury to his hand.
Richardson has also had issues regarding the 2024 season when he pulled himself from a game during Week 8 of the 2024 season. He stated that it was due to “needing a break,” but he was pegged by pundits and fans as “quitting” on the team.
Richardson is still very young in his career, so he needs to improve on issues like this, along with remaining durable. He still has a chance to start in 2025, but not unless his finger becomes a massive issue.
The Colts are certain to do more tests on Richardson’s finger, and Steichen will offer updates on the severity of the injury should it be significant. For now, Colts fans will have to hope that the young passer did not suffer anything severe.
