Ikarus Buses Will Return to Greece after 20 Years

After a two-decade hiatus, the Ikarus brand is set to make its return to the Greek market, as a world-famous tourist hotspot has chosen a fully electric model from the Hungarian manufacturer. Two Ikarus 80e V4 midibuses are scheduled to be delivered to the client in October, after which they will be seen in daily operation in Marousi, a small town in the northeastern metropolitan area of Athens.

The order went to Fotagon Led, the Greek distribution partner of Electrobus Europe, which markets the products of the Hungarian manufacturer from Székesfehérvár. This way, Ikarus was able to prevail against the competition, reports magyarbusz.info.

Greece has traditionally been an important market for midibuses in Europe. Especially in the narrow streets of many Greek cities, these more compact vehicles are in high demand. So far, mostly Turkish manufacturers have benefited from this, as the large European bus builders often neglect this segment.

The Ikarus midibuses of the 80e type, first presented to the public in Brussels in 2023, are fully low-floor and offer space for up to 60 passengers.

On board, there are not only 18 fixed and two foldable seats but also comfort features such as USB charging ports at every seat and a modern heat pump air conditioning system.

With an estimated range of 250 to 300 kilometers per charge and a comprehensive safety assistance package including lane-keeping assist, collision warning, and pedestrian detection, Ikarus relies on modern technology and safety. The comeback in Greece could thus be the beginning of a new success story for the Hungarian manufacturer.
