Ohio State Buckeyes Star Jeremiah Smith Sets Massive Record
The Ohio State Buckeyes have gotten off to a hot start to begin the 2025 college football season. After upsetting the Texas Longhorns in their first game, the Buckeyes backed that up with a 70-0 victory over Grambling State in Week 2.
Entering the season, no one knew exactly what to expect from Ohio State. The team lost a lot of talent from last season’s national championship winning squad. However, the first two games have looked very good for Ryan Day and company.
Jeremiah Smith had had a below average performance in the season opener against Texas. He caught just six passes for 43 yards in that win.

He was able to bounce back strong against Grambling State. Smith caught five passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns, including an 87-yard touchdown reception.

That touchdown reception actually broke a massive school record. Smith now holds the record for the longest pass play in Buckeyes’ school history.
Throughout his first year and two games with Ohio State, Smith has been an absolute superstar. His future could not be brighter. Many believe he’ll have a chance to be a No. 1 overall pick candidate in whichever NFL Draft he chooses to enter.
In his freshman season last years, Smith burst onto the scene and immediately became one of the best wide receivers in college football. He racked up 76 receptions for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns. Smith is already off to a strong start in year two.
Of course, in a 70-0 win, there are going to be a lot of great performances. Julian Sayin played well in his second start with the Buckeyes, completing 18 of his 19 passes for 306 yards, four touchdowns, and an interception.
Following the game, Smith spoke out with a very strong statement about his new quarterback.
“It’s crazy. I’ve been seeing it since his freshman year, since last year when we first got here,” Smith said. “Nothing surprises me at this point. He can make any and every throw. … He’s controlling the offense at a very good pace right now. I’m very excited for him.”

While it was only a win over a team that Ohio State was expected to dominate, there are a lot of reasons to be excited about the team.
With Smith and Sayin leading the way, the Buckeyes are going to be a very difficult team to beat all year long.
