North Carolina man sentenced for kidnapping, raping 2 women
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. (TCN) — A man will spend decades behind bars in connection with the abduction and rape of two women.
The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office said in a Sept. 3 news release that Garrett Christopher Rogers was convicted of multiple felony charges, including kidnapping and rape. He subsequently received a sentence of 300 to 432 months, or 25 to 36 years, in prison.
The sheriff’s office initially responded to the possible kidnapping and rape of two women in 2021 and identified Rogers as the primary suspect in those cases.
According to deputies, in one incident, on Oct. 31, 2021, Rogers allegedly used a social media dating app to meet a woman at a Walmart in Leland. Authorities said he is accused of pulling out a handgun and forcing the woman to “perform several sex acts,” and he raped her. The woman reportedly escaped from Rogers and called law enforcement. He was arrested at his home.
In August 2022, the sheriff’s office announced that they identified more possible victims of Rogers since his 2021 arrest.
In a statement, Sheriff Ed McMahon said, “This conviction sends a strong message that violent crimes in our community will not be tolerated. We are grateful for the tireless efforts of our team and our valued partners in the District Attorney’s Office, as we continue to stand in support of victims.”
