Earlier this week, the government announced that Hungary and the United Arab Emirates would extend their cooperation to further areas, including the space industry, defense, and telecommunications. Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, held talks with UAE counterpart Thani bin Ahmed al-Zeyoudi, on Monday, and said at a joint press conference that they had reviewed the implementation of the twelve economic agreements recently signed between the two countries.

At Monday’s event, the Hungarian politician reported on successful economic cooperation with the United Arab Emirates, mentioning significant cheese exports, pharmaceutical exports, and the participation of Hungarian digital service providers in festivals in the Emirates. He emphasized that relations now extend to new areas such as space industry, defense, and telecommunications. He also mentioned as a welcome development that Wizz Air has resumed its flights, with twenty direct flights now operating weekly between Hungary and the United Arab Emirates.

Meanwhile, today, Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, spoke on the phone with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio about the process of ending the war in Ukraine and energy security issues.

Just had a long call with Marco Rubio, where I thanked him for the peace efforts of Donald Trump and the US government.

Trump is the only leader with the strength to bring peace back to Central Europe, and unlike some European politicians, Hungary stands firmly behind his mission. Secretary Rubio assured me that President Trump will not give up, which gives real hope this devastating war can finally end.

We also discussed our bilateral relations, which have entered a new phase of friendship and mutual respect. Since President Trump took office, six US investments have been announced in Hungary, and we committed to US technology in small modular nuclear reactors to ensure Hungary’s secure energy supply.” Péter Szijjártó wrote on X.

According to information on the US Department of State’s website,

Marco Rubio emphasized during the phone call the importance of the international community supporting the peace process, which is based on a lasting and negotiated agreement aimed at ending the war between Russia and Ukraine.

The US and Hungarian foreign ministers also discussed strategic efforts to strengthen energy security.

In another social media post, Minister Szijjártó wrote: “Great call with Marco Rubio. Encouraging to hear that despite recent escalations, Donald Trump stands firm in his mission to bring peace to Ukraine and has not given up. Hungary continues to support his efforts.”
